D3P Teikoku Kaigun Koibojou ~ Meiji Yokosuka Koushinkyoku Official site opens! (PSVITA)

(*´▽`*)(*´▽`*)(*´▽`*)(*´▽`*)

I know I’m getting too overly excited about this game but it seems like it’s gonna be way more interesting than I thought it would be. The website just opened officially and I was crunching on Matcha Kitkats while looking at it and nearly choked from excitement. (;´・ω・) But y’know, why do they have to give such long names? (And we thought Rejet’s ‘moshi kono sekai ni kami-sama ga iru to suru naraba’ was bad)

Anyway, apart from Yunohana Spring and Ayakashi Okawari, this is gonna be the next big thing I will be stalking, frequently.

Story: It’s the 36 year of Meiji and the country is recovering from the remains of the Nisshin war (Chinese-Japanese war). Mihagi Sonoo (heroine) has just graduated from the instructor school, but has yet found a job and at her wit’s end. She then finds out that the Yokosuka military base near her home is currently looking for artists, and bringing her own paintings, she sets off for the interview. But she gets lost in the building and chances upon the Navy’s music band (who are spies and in the middle of their planning) and is caught by them. Seeing that the jobless Sonoo have thoughts in line with the musicians who can’t have their spy secrets leaked, they take her in as an artist-cum- spy in training. As she works at making posters, her boss Iyobe one day orders her to partner with the other members and go on a real spy mission! And thus, her first spy mission begins!

Characters:

Mihagi Sonoo

heroin

She lost both her parents in the war and was raised by her grandfather. Her high school was near to the Yokosuka trading port, so she had learnt English and Western dessert making. She aims to become an artist since that is what will make money as a woman, so she majored in fine arts. Despite her working as an artist drawing posters for the Navy, she is forced to help out in the secret missions because she knows their true identity.

Fukuyama Mineharu (CV: Saitou Souma)

mineharu

“Believe in me and whatever happens, don’t let go of my hand”

He plays the trombone and is the firstborn of a poor Shizoku family who has lost their power in society. (Shizoku = higher rank than commoners, but lower than Kazoku nobles). To save his family, he had no choice but to either become an official or a solider. He has a bright, friendly personality and a serious boy because he believes hard work will definitely be rewarded. He is stoic in his work and is happy he was able to join the music ensemble because music is his comfort.

Hiratsuka Shigeru (CV: Maeno Tomoaki)

shigeru

“Why’re you so stiff? Come on, relax those shoulders!”

His mother was the daughter of a former samurai family but became a courtesan that serves only foreigners, and she eventually became pregnant with the son of a Russia officer. Shigeru joined the army’s ensemble with a false history and always has his head in the clouds, a womanizer. He has his gentle spots but believes that everyone loves themselves the most. Unexpectedly sensitive too. He plays saxophone.

Iyobe Naoya (CV: Konishi Katsuyuki)

naoya

“Fulfil your own duty”

From the instructor’s school, he joined the Officer’s school and was originally not in the music ensemble but there wasn’t enough people with music abilities and he became a superior officer. He is a man of few words and is strict towards others and himself. He tends to do everything himself and does not rely on others. His trumpet is acquired from one of his friends and soldiers who died in the war. (Hi sexy ojisan)

Hara Masaki (CV: Sakurai Takahiro)

masaki

“Status or family background, these don’t matter. Your pure personality is the way you are.”

Having the best education, he was given one of the highest positions in army. He is in the ensemble momentarily. Having results that far surpasses the rest, he doesn’t suspect anything about his own experiences. Gentlemanly and has a peaceful personality, ladies first is his motto. He is objective but has the habit of not putting himself into others’ shoes. He also holds no particular view about the war and only thinks of it as data collected. Flutist.

Komiyama Takamoto (CV: Ishida Akira)

takamoto

“I will do anything to get ahead in the world. Don’t forget that.”

He plays the tuba and thought that despite being from the family of merchants, he would be able to make his way in the world after graduating from officer school, but he somehow became the army doctor. He was originally sent to the Navy but did all his duties so perfectly that he became a nuisance (lol why??) and was sent to the military ensemble instead. He tries to separate all feelings when doing his duties and is thus awkward at making friends. He gives others the impression that he is hard to get along with.

Awwwww my navy boys come to me!!!

I’m really interested in Takamoto and Shigeru, Naoya too for being a sexy ossan. While I wonder why the whole plot of her meeting them is already revealed and where it will go from now on, there seems to be potential for many fun scenarios for this game! Meiji, War, Navy, music, spies!! All my favourite things! /getsshot/

Sonoo graduating from instructor school is pretty iffy since it wasn’t until Taisho that girls really started going to school, and being an artist, much less female is still difficult in Japan now, but since Yokosuka is near the port and under many Western influences I’m willing to kind of overlook that.

I really like D3P’s effort to create games that aren’t of the usual boring fairytale rehash or a normal kind of school/band setting. The fact that the characters are my age also makes it a big plus point! I think their idea is to build on the overflowing Western influences in Meiji and the difficulties there, and also aftermath of war that hopefully won’t be badly watered down.

Please give me this game by August so I can play it without thinking about my graduation thesis ( ;∀;)

  2. Thank you so much for translating! That looks fun but I’m not sure about the combination of music x Navy o_O I guess I feel it makes it less credible or more confusing? Still I agree that it’s something to be excited about!

  3. Thanks for the translations!

I still don’t really know what to think of this game, but since it’s pretty early days, I won’t make any final judgements yet. I remember reading somewhere that women weren’t allowed to even join the Japanese military as nurses until some time in the early 1990s, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, I think they would have been better off creating a fictional world that resembles Japan in the Meiji era so this won’t nag me! Also, the plot seems kinda dodgy, though I still think there’s a good chance that it could turn out to be interesting.

    I won’t entirely dismiss this yet! 😀

    • Hey friend! I hope the busy month for you has passed too! 😀

Yeah I did think that Sonoo graduating from instructor school was pretty iffy since it wasn’t until Taisho that girls really started going to school and female artist? Hmmmmmm ( *`ω´) But since Yokosuka is near the port and under many Western influences I’m willing to kind of overlook that.

What I really like though, is D3P’s effort to create games that aren’t of the usual boring fairytale rehash or a normal kind of school/band setting. The fact that the characters are my age also makes it a big plus point :p

About the alternate world, that sounds fun! But I think their idea is to build on the overflowing Western influences in Meiji and the difficulties there, and also aftermath of war that hopefully won’t be badly watered down.

I’ll be really waiting on this!

      • Yeah, my crazy busy period finished about a week ago. I’m back at college now but it’s not nearly as busy- it’ll get busy again at the end of the term. I read that you’ll be working on a thesis soon, so good luck with that!

I guess that if you want to bring a military setting into an otome game, you’d have to overlook the restrictions on female personnel in order to facilitate the plot.

I totally agree with you in regards to D3P making games that aren’t the usual sludge we’ve been dealt with (AND expected to play!) for the last year or two. We’ve had a few games centered around special ops, military, etc., but I don’t recall any of them really interesting me. Which is a shame, since I like stories about war and combat!

Ah, I see, I see. I got the impression that D3P were just wanting to use a Meiji setting for appearance’s sake, not for using what was happening back then as a plot element. If that’s the case, this game sounds even more interesting.

      • That’s great, well take a breather! Yeah (un)fortunately I’m in graduate year, so I probably won’t get time to do much after summer holidays.. Thank you! Ganbarimasu! (*´▽`*)

I think the last military thingy is Kaleido-eve which totally put both of us off due to the miniskirt of the heroine (lol). Otome games are so hogwashed when it comes to wars and stuff D: I really like war stuff too, which is why Senjou no Waltz is still on a playable level for me 🙂

I suspect Iyobe’s past is gonna be alot about the war, he’s an ossan afterall, and that thing about his instrument too…..

  4. So excited for this game! I think I’m being a weirdo, but I really like the character design for Mihagi. She’s so cute! I feel that the story will be so interesting (ignoring the obvious historical restrictions). And all them uniforms *hastily wipes drool* Time to invest in a good kanji dictionary!

Excited for the CG previews too! I’m gonna stalk the official page everyday now xD. The background music that plays is really catchy.

I really hopes this comes when I have saved enough to get a Vita and this game >< Real life is a bummer sometimes.

    • Haha yeah me too! I think Sonoo’s design is really nice too, but I would’ve liked it more if they didn’t make it pink and give it the same colour as the guys.
Haha good luck with the saving! Navy boys must not be missed 😀

      • Yeah now that you mention it, if it wasn’t pink, it would be so nice. But I guess since she’s a girl she has to be pink.

Thanks! My need for the Vita has grown exponentially since they also announced Code:Realize will be translated in English. I know there’s going to be some translation things that won’t get across, but sometimes kanji is just so painful to get through :<

I hope your finals went well!
